hi Wendy! Thanks for putting up such a great site! Here is the story of how I got my name. My dad's family had a thing about the alphabet. There were 15 children in his family: 11 boys and 4 girls (all by the same parents!) My dad was the eldest and his name was Albert, then Bennett, Cecil, David..... and the youngest being Oscar. So when my dad started his own family, he started out with R. I have 4 older brothers and I am the youngest and the only girl. Here is how it goes: (R)oland, (S)teven, (T)alent, (U was skipped, I could not imagine having a brother named Urine :) and why have one U when we can have double U), (V)ictor and then Me -- (W)endy. All of our names have some kind of meaning behind them. Roland, the Song of Roland -- being the eldest, my dad wanted him to have a very noble and heroic name. Steven -- I cannot remember his story. Talent -- my parents thought that he was going to be a girl, so they were not quite prepared with a boy's name, so he came up with Talent and he is very talented! Victor -- was born with a hole in his heart and my dad wanted him to be victorious and fight the battle and he did, he is now 32! And last but not least me - Wendy -- well, for Peter Pan's Wendy because she was very caring and motherly, and also after our neighbor, she was named Wendy and my parents thought that she was the smartest and kindest of the 6 kids next door. I never knew many WENDYs growing up in the 70s, there were several Lauras, Cathys, Kims, but I never knew another Wendy except for my neighbor, she was 16 years older than me and in Hong Kong! I started on a mission -- whenever we went to a store that carried personalized pencils, toothbrushes, license plates, stickers, etc. I had to find WENDY, I still do that today! At 5, I told my parents that I wanted jewelry that had WENDY on it so, my parents got me a WENDY necklace and bracelet and "W" earrings and ring; I wore it all the time until I outgrew them. It was only in Junior high that I met other Wendys, that was weird! Anyway, I am 29 now and a few years ago, I married a Michael! So, you can imagine the jokes we hear - where's Peter Pan? I am not totally in love with my name and although it is not unique or original, I like it because it is not too common and it is just a pretty name with a wonderful meaning. So, to all you Wendys in the world, thank your parents for giving you a great name! -Wendy Teoh-Chung
Subject: Another Wendy Date: Sat, 13 Jul 2002 14:03:51 +0200 Hi Wendys, I, among many others, am a Wendy living in Belgium (Europe). Unlike what I've been reading in your letters, in Belgium the name Wendy is used very very often. One year I went to school and there were 3 Wendys in my class, so they just called us Wendy 1, Wendy 2, .... That 's why I never liked our name as much as you do, but now that I read how many special Wendys there are! Wow! I sent the link for your website to my best friend, also a Wendy, and she's thrilled about it! For almost all of our lives we were in the same class and so we always were named Wendy 1 and Wendy 2!! Now that we know there is an exclusive site about us, we can swank about it. Thank you so much for making us feel important!! Love Wendy1 and Wendy2
Date: Sun, 16 Dec 2001 00:00:59 -0800 (PST) Subject: the wendy site A friend passed the site on to me cuz I'm a Wendy. I couldn't believe there was another Wendy named for the news lady. My parents were hoping for a boy and wanted to name me after my uncle William Warren. But I surprized them by being a girl and they went with it anyway. My middle name is Warren for my uncle. My parents thought the girl on the news was so cute that Warren for a middle name would be okay. Anyway, I love being a Wendy and I love the site!!
Date: Thu, 31 Jan 2002 18:41:17 -0600 What a fun site, and it is great to see that so many Wendy's love their name! I am an Aussie Wendy, presently living in the USA, but have just spent 5 years enduring the nick name 'Wendy-house' in the UK. It is the name they give to a childs play house (or 'cubby-house' as we say in Australia) and is sometimes used as a derogitory reference to a shabby small home. So not the nicest nick-name and perhaps explains the lack of Wendy's in Britain. I even noticed on the birthday list that there is a Wendy House. I hope she doesn't live in the UK! Like most of you, I had the usual derivations, like 'Wend, Wendles, Wendeley-Pendeley, Wendikins , Wendy-woo...the list goes on! I resisted changing my last name to that of my husbands for about 3 years (as it is his Aunt's name, and it all seems a bit too wierd to know someone with the exact same name) but had to in the end to make our move to the US and visa situation less complicated.
Subject: which wendy's which??? Date: Tue, 04 Dec 2001 22:05:03 +0000 HI there Wow, who would've guessed that so many people with the same name would be so similar! My parents named me Wendy Lynn, they were considering Gwendolyn but my big sister's middle name is Gwynneth and they decided it was too similar and would make things far too complicated! Thank goodness because i love my name!:) I'm a south african Wendy but i'm in england at the moment studying at college... I cant wait to go home though! I've also had some strange nicknames, some the same as the other wendy's on the site: Windy - small children & non english speakers (I hate it though) Woendebaar - german for wonderful, how very appropriate! Woen, Woennis - adaptions of woendebaar Tinkerbell - Taken from peter pan Wendy woo - Who knows??? Wends - most of my friends... And strangely enough, i am also sometimes called munchkin/shnookie! I also get people asking me about wendy houses and calling me wendy the witch, how charming, but i'm over being embarressd by it. One thing i have noticed is that i love the way my name looks in writing, most people write 'hello' when trying out pens or pencils or just doodling but i always write my name... Wendy... aint it cool??? I'd love to read every one of the letters here but there are just so many its not possible in one sitting...I'm going to have to visit the site regularly now!:) Luv Wendy...so pretty, dont you think?
Subject: add to birthday list Date: Tue, 19 Jun 2001 12:50:47 -0700 hello from yet another wendy. pokin' around on the computer and found your website. fun! i checked out some of the mail from the other wendy's and it's interesting how most got their name from the peter pan story. here's an excerpt from a birthday card that i received from my mother (now deceased) when i turned 33. it explains how i got my name. "Back in 1954 there were two women dreaming of a beautiful little girl. I had my dream of this beautiful girl - I would name her Wendy Ann. The other lady dreaming of a beautiful girl was Madam Alexander, a maker of dolls and she made a very special doll and named her Wendy Ann. Both Wendys came into the world in 1954. Both were very special and are very much loved, and have a special place in the hearts of many. Madam Alexander's Wendy is put on a shelf, to be admired and adored by all that see her. My Wendy is admired and adored by all that know her, but she is not on a shelf. She is in our hearts, a very special real live doll and we love her very much." when my mother gave me this card she also presented me with the Wendy Ann doll. both are proudly displayed in a special place in my dollroom. you see, my mother went on to become a dollmaker herself, designing and pouring her own beautiful porcelain dolls. i miss her daily but her dolls always bring a smile to my heart... anyway, thought you would like another story from another wendy. perhaps you could post this letter in the 'letters from wendys' that you have on your site. i thank you for having this web site. i'll be in and out seeing what's new with all the other special wendys out there.
Date: Sun, 30 Apr 2000 23:11:15 -0700 (PDT) Subject: Who would've thunk it? Wow! Who would've thunk it? I, like many others, stumbled onto your site with the thought, "I wonder if there is a domain with my name?" Well, there certainly is -- and what a site! I've enjoyed reading many of the letters as well as the history, etc. My name, of course, is Wendy. I'm the youngest of six, born in 1961. I was somewhat unexpected, coming after the tubes were tied (yikes!). My parents felt that I was special - I was supposed to be here. They decided to let my older siblings name me and since Peter Pan was popular at the time, I was given that wonderful name. Now, everyone else in my family had very Scottish/Irish names such as "Michael Patrick" and "Margaret Elizabeth", so I was given the formal name of "Gwendolyn" with no middle name. I've always enjoyed my nickname, but I disliked having to correct my teachers when they would automatically assume that I would go by "Gwen". One problem with not having a middle name is that some "fields" don't allow it. My library card in high school said "Gwendolyn NMN Xxxxxxx," where NMN meant No Middle Name. I do remember the Beach Boy song, as many other Wendys have noted. In fact, I remember the album cover having a picture of a convertible with one of the Beach Boys and a girl wearing a triangle scarf on her head. I used to look at that and very convincingly say, "That was me when I was older". As for other nicknames: Wen, Wendy Sue, Wendy Lou Who, Vendy (with a Swedish accent), and Dolyn Dahling (with a British accent), given to me by college friends who thought my name should be Gwen Dolyn Xxxxxx, since I didn't have a middle name. All in all, I love my name!! Thanks for the fun site! Wendy in Texas

Hi Wendy ;)
I was reading some of the letters from other Wendys and am excited
to find out how much we all have in common! I am in my late teens
from Australia, and only know of a few people called Wendy. I
don't think I was named after anyone in particular, my mum just always
liked the name Wendy Anne. I never really thought about my name when
I was younger, but now I really love it! It's so magical and a little
bit rare, but not too much so that people can understand it! I do not
know of the Wendy restaurant that quite a few of the other Wendys
mentioned, but in Australia we have a well-known ice-cream shop called
"Wendy's"...so when I was at school, people used to ask me for a free
ice-cream, or would quote the slogan, "Wendy's, Wendy's...YUM!"
Before reading your site, I had a small theory of my own about the name.
I had read that it was created by J.M Barrie, but also read somewhere
that it was of Teutonic origin. I looked up the dictionary, and found
the following:
wend: 1. to direct or pursue (one's way, etc)
2. to proceed or go
Wend: a member of a Slavic people in Saxony and adjoining parts of Prussia
I thought that maybe J.M Barrie had got the idea for the name from one
of these words. Who knows?? Some people have even joked that it is short
for Wednesday! Anyway, my nicknames have been Wendy-woo, Windy (by little
children), Wendy-ma-lyn, and Wendomeister (by my brother). But normally
I'm just called Wendy or Munchkin!
There is only one problem with the name Wendy - whenever someone
asks another person a question like, "When do you have to leave" or
something similar, I always turn around, because when it's spoken quite
fast, it sounds like Wendy! (And am then disappointed to find they are not
talking to me!) Does anyone else have that problem?
Nevertheless, I think Wendy is a wonderful name that belongs to wonderful, magical people!
Love Wendy

I'm a Wendy from Holland, Europe. I've never met another Wendy in reality: I know they do exist... somewhere :) Only 2 people shorten my name: they call me Wen, but it always sounds very weird. When I was young my nickname was Peter Pan, but just until I was 4 years old, I think. My only nickname in highschool has been 'Trendy' as in Trendy-Wendy. I like that name, because I'm an absolute fasion fan (it's soo me...) I've always been very content with my name and also why my parents named me Wendy: My mother saw the cute little statue of Peter Pan in London and fell in love with it. And so did I when I visited exactly 25 years later (summer 1999): everyone should go and see it!!! The reason I write this mail is that I have the idea that every time a Wendy shows up in a movie or on TV It is either a bitch or a prostitute: WHY is that, do we have a cheap or mean name??? Has anyone else noticed that ever???
Date: Fri, 29 Sep 2000 19:58:39 -0700 (PDT) Subject: Hi Wendys!!! Wow! What a neat website! I feel so privileged to have the name Wendy! :) I accidently found your site when I was looking at names on behindthename.com I decided to look up my name to see what meaning they had for it. And to my surprise, it was the only name I found that had a whole website dedicated to it!! How cool. I have always liked my name, you don't hear it too often which is great! And I think it fits my personality perfectly. I am a Disney fan and I love the fact that "Wendy" became an official name when it appeared in the movie Peter Pan! I am also surprised at how many Wendys share my middle name as well! Wendy Michelle... Wow! :) So how many of you were actually called "window" growing up? I don't remember exactly how that started, but my mom calls me that to this day. haha! Anyway, I too, was named after the Wendy song (by Association). My sister's name is Sandy, my parents joked about naming our brother Sonny! Wouldn't THAT be a crazy trio? Wind, Sand, and Sun... Anyway... great site! I'll be back!
Date: Wed, 20 Sep 2000 23:20:16 -0800 Subject: WOW! I guess 'WOW' just about sums it up! I am speechless when it comes to describing your website (that I, like many others, stumbled upon by chance!). It is such a wonderful feeling to know that so many have been brought together by a name. I never happened to be fond of my name, to me it was one of those names that was good enough for a child, but not mature enough for an adult. I have become more fond of it as I have gotten older (not too old, 29 to be exact. Apparently I was born during the peak period for the name). It is so nice to hear familiar stories from others with the same name. So many similarities; nicknames, middle names, being 'called' names! Let alone the personality similarities. I am a Wendy Michele. I didn't know my middle name only had one L until I was in elementary school (probably 3rd grade). I remember asking my mom why and she said, "Isn't that how it's supposed to be spelled?" My first name was given to me without too much thought. My parent's were hoping for another boy and I was to be 'Justin Paul' or 'J.P.' as they would have called me. Unfortunately for them, and luckily for me, I messed that all up! My mom thought Shanda was a nice name for a girl, thankfully my dad put a stop to that and from what I've been told, as they tried to think of a name they looked out the window and it was windy outside, hence the name Wendy (I don't know why they actually spelled it the way they did - heck, they couldn't get Michele right!) Anyways, I would have much rather been named after Peter Pan! Thanks for your site, I will be checking in often!
Date: Mon, 10 Jan 2000 18:19:24 EST Subject: Hi Wendy What a terrific site! I too am a Wendy, born in 1946! I was the only Wendy I knew growing up. My mother "made up" the "real name" Wendelyn, in case I wanted something more sophisticated when I grew up! Ha! I hated it all through school, and kind of buried it. But I've always loved the name Wendy - WendyBird, Peter's Wendy and Caspar's friend Wendy-the-Good-Little-Witch were pretty good role models. My brother couldn't pronounce my name when he was little, so I am called "Wink" or "Winky" by all of my relatives. My mother told the nurse in the hospital that she had picked out the name "Linda" for me, and the nurse said "isn't that nice - we have 16 other little Lindas in the nursery!" (I'm so glad I wasn't a Linda - there were millions in my age group). It was 6 weeks before I was named. Sadly, though, mom was reading the newspaper, and saw an article about a little girl named Wendy who had died in an automobile accident - and loved the name. So here's to that little Wendy, whoever she is - I am your namesake - thank you for my name.

Subject: World Wide Wendy
Hey Wendy!!
I'm a Wendy!!I was just reading through all the mail you posted.
It's soooo wierd I have SO much in common with everyone!! The reason that my
mom and dad chose my name wendy was because they are teachers and they have
never had a bad kid named Wendy in their classes. And it's so true, I know
of a few Wendy's and they are the nicest people. I think that the people
with the name Wendy are seriously connected it some way!!. I have all the
same nick names as you guys.. Windy, wen, Gwendolyn, Wendy woo woo, Wendell,
wendylynn,my middle name is lynne, Wendola And Wendy Bird which is so weird
because some guy made that up for me in 4th grade and teased me with it
forever. I can't believe some one else had it too!!! People always make fun
of me with the resturant ya know. LIke they'll say hey can I have a biggie
fries or whatever.
I love having the name Wendy!!! It's funny because whenever it's
windy outside and someone says "it's windy outside". My dad always said "NO
Wendy is inside". I thought that was kinda funny. Whats so cool about my
name is that my last name starts with an M. So my initials are WM and if you
turn it upside down it's still WM!!! IT's so weird because I too, accidently
came across this website. I was just typing random things in it to see what
I could come up with. I always thought I was special because my name was in
the movie Peter Pan. And peter pan falls in love with Wendy. I love my name
Wendy and I feel so connected to all the other Wendys, I love you all. I
think though that I am one of the youngest wendy's, I'm 15. I think my
parents named me wendy when there was a decline in Wendys.

Dear Wendy´s around the world,
As probably many of you I am no Internet-addict at all. I prefer talking in
person with people, and sometimes I talk so much that people get confused.
That´s exactly why somebody suggested me joking I should have my own web-page
and only then I discovered I already had one! All my nicknames and real name
(Gwendolyn) are there, represented by so many different fellow Wendy´s. I have
to admit: it gives a great feeling to be part of a Wendy´s world. I never gave
any special importance to my name, but guess what: the week after finding (y)our
web-site a friend suddenly sent me a printed wish-card saying (free translation):
"WENDY: Enjoys and goes in search of nice company. Has a joyful and optimistic
character. Through hard work she will still achieve a lot in life. She is
appreciated by many. Wendy is a name to be proud of." So to all of us: let´s
enjoy our name and company!

I have a small Wendy story - I am on a mailing list for a band, and out of
nowhere I get an e-mail from one of the members. He said what he first
saw was that I went to the University of Washington - his old
school. then he said he noticed that my name was Wendy - and that his
wife was named Wendy. He told me to spread the word that Wendy's are the
best women out there, and any man (or woman, if you swing that way) who
has one should try their hardest to hold on to them!
keep up the EXCELLENT work...

Wendy:
Yet another Wendy here! I really love your site, stumbled on to it by accident.
I really loved all the stories sent in by other Wendy's, so I wanted to send in
my own. My father originally wanted to name me Michelle.
He is a huge Beatle's fan and wanted to do some sort of tribute to them. My mother
hates the Beatles with a passion and wanted to name me Lacey. My dad hated that name.
So, the compromised and went with a Beach Boys song. so, i am Wendy Michelle (my dad
did get his Beatle's tribute...and my little brother's middle name is Paul). I really
like it because my father loves music, and having a name derived from music is almost
a tribute to him.
Growing up, I had the normal nicknames - Wend, Wen, Dee (my brother couldn't pronounce
my name when he was young...the name stuck and mom now calls me Dee), Wandy (thanks dad),
Wendorama, Wendelicious (an old friend who insisted i call him Dantastic)...tons others
but here is the most unusual, bestowed by my parents to annoy me - Gwendolyn Gene the
Garbonzo Bean Queen. Yes, it is true.
I really love my name - always have. Last name is Rice though, so not only do I get
the normal "Wendy" teasing, but the added "Rice" fun (rice-a-roni, rice krispie treat,
rice cooker...). But overall, being a wendy is great...Oh, another point i was made
fun of for - I was born in Casper, WY!
thanks for the awesome site!!! wendy in washington

Subject: Wendys Unite!
Dear Wendy,
WOW! How beautiful to see so many lovely wendys filling the world! As you
can see from my email, my nickname is "wendybird" --sometimes just 'bird'
for short. Of course that came directly from that evil little
twinklebell's scheming. HOW could she have misled the lost boys so? I'm
wondering if you've ever run across the book "The Wendy Dillema" by Kiley.
It's pretty darn interesting, all about what he calls the "Wendy Complex".
Apparently, we have a bad habit of hooking up with Peters (little boys who
don't want to grow up?...ayep). My middle name is Jane, after my mommy,
who as a teenager thought to herself that she would name her children
Wendy, John and Michael. She got to Wendy and John, and never had a
Michael, alas. And as you are probabley aware, when Peter came back for
his Wendy, he found himself a Jane instead (Wendy's daughter). So I guess
we got that backwards.
When I was a toddler my big bro teased me by singing "Wenny the POOH!"
--of course, the emphasis was on POOH! And so we have progressed through
our lives as wenny and nonny, being only 18 months apart and unable to
pronounce eachothers names. Of course, I've been "Wendy's hot and juicy"
for most of my life, and still my coworkers call me McDonalds or Burger
King sometimes. Oy vey. But you know what? It's ALL WORTH IT because
WENDYS RULE!

Hi all Wendys,Wendis, Wendies, and others that have
the same name that all sound alike but are spelled
differently...
Please don't discriminate just cuz i spell my name
differently, it's really the same name when you get
down to it. Although i never really liked my name when
i was younger, it's starting to grow on me. When i was
born, my mom wanted to name me Alyssa, but my dad
wanted to name me Wendy after his favorite Beach Boys
Song, so they compromised and my mom named Wendi just
to be a little different. I like having the name
Wendi because it's a fairly easy name for people to
remember because it's unique enough to stick in your
mind, but easy enough to remember how to pronounce it.
I've had almost all the same nicknames as everyone
else who has written with my two favorites being:
Wendilyn and Wenders. I really do love my name and
i'm so pumped to find out that there are so many
people out there that feel the same way!! Thanx so
much for this interesting and unique website! Thanx
again, Wendi, S.D.

Hello Sister of the Same Name!
I love being a Wendy. Our magical name has introduced me to so many
wonderful people in my lifetime. A man I've never met sent me to this
site. He introduced himself to me after getting an email with my name
on it. He said he'd always wanted to meet a Wendy, so he was just
sending a hello to take a chance. He has now captured my heart and has
become an wonderful friend, no personal contact, no pictures, just
amazing words.
I will make sure to visit your site often, so I can keep up with your work.
Keep it up, as it is a wonderful positive site.
Thanks for your creation!
My name is Wendy Xxxxxxxxxx. That is my married name. My maiden name
was Wendy Xxxx. It was a great name. I really loved it because people
never forgot my name. It earned my the nickname breezy. I was also
called Pooh because I thought the bear's name was Wendy too. I didn't
realize when I was a child that his name was Winnie. I had a cat named
Tiger and I wouldn't answer to anything but Pooh when I was a young
girl. My middle name is Beth. My mother named my Wendy because she had
met a little girl that she thought was so cute and so sweet. Her name
was Wendy of course. You have a great web site! I will visit often.
I found your site and I couldn't help myself! I read through your
"Interesting Mail from Wendys" and was truly amazed to find so many
other Wendys in the world! I loved hearing thier stories! I myself was
NOT named after the Peter Pan book, but after the song "Windy" by the
Association. My mom, being only 16 when I was born, really liked that
song. When you're a teenager, of course it makes sense to name your kid
after a song!! (I'm just glad she didn't name me "Do ya think I'm Sexy"
or some other popular '70s song!!) Ha! I have to say that I love my
name. I always have. I am called "Pooh" (as in Winnie the Pooh-Bear) by
my family, "Wen" by my closest friends, and I get the occasional
"Wend-O" which is weird because who wants to be called a window?
Anyways, you're site is really fun and I told all of my friends about
it! Keep up the good work!

Believe it or not, my name is Wendy Darling. I am not kidding. I was born
in 1977 and my mother was in love with the movie Peter Pan, mainly because it
included her married name (Darling). You cannot even fathom the number of
jokes I have gotten. Try taking ALL of the dave jokes and ALL of the "Gee,
its windy outside" jokes and put them with the Peter Pan jokes. Thats the
story of my life. I will go to the grocery store of to the bank and I will
use a check or credit card and everytime, they say to me "Did you know that
you have the same name as that girl in Peter Pan?!" I want to tell them,
"Why thank you for telling me! I am 21 years of age and no one has ever told
me that!!" But I'm nice so I don't.
I absolutely love your web page. I think I have spent an hour here already.
You have really done a great job.
Oh, to add/copy some of the nicknames: Winifred, Wendolyn, Gwendy, Wen,
Wendell, and Rendy. Wendell and Rendy are from the good ol' high school
girls and those two have stuck. I love my name though (maybe not necessarily
put together with the last name but oh well!).
I really do feel close to all of you Wendys out there. Keep the name
alive!!! :-)

Hi Wendy,
Yep!! I was surprised to find World Wide Wendy. What a wonderful idea.
I might be your oldest Wendy so far (born in Feb of '49) Yikes!!!
My middle name is Jo (father was a "Joe") and my father takes credit for
naming all of us. My mother disputes this claim.
I always liked my name, and hated being saddled with any nicknames. My
oldest sister is the only one I tolerate using the nick "Wen", lucky for
her she doesn't use it often. But I've always had to endure the
mispronunciation Windy which always led to Breezy, Stormy, etc. The
unfortunates attempting to make these silly nicknames stick were always
dealt a withering glare. No one has dared to connect me in any way to
Wendy's Hamburgers (to my face that is.) LOL!!
In school, I too was always asked what my given or full name was. Duh!!
Dont know what it was back then that anything ending in "y" must be a
nickname.
Believe it or not I have known only one other Wendy until I stumbled
onto this site (other than the famous ones of course.)
Delighted to find so many Wendys in one place, Thanks for creating these
pages.

i was very encourged to see that there are wendys that are over 30, most
of the ones i have met have been younger. i got my name because i was
the first born and my father was so sure i was going to be a boy (before
they had ultrasounds) he would not let my mother pick any girl names. Well
guess what i turned out to be a girl and he was pressed for a name. He
liked the associations song, but my mother insisted they spell it Wendy.
So growing up i was always told how wonderful i was.
i got all the teasing, "Wendy's hot and juicy" too, but i have always loved
my name and love my nick name now. WendyWoo (no i am not oriental), i got
it due to a small streaking incident about 12 years ago, but now its a term
of endreament that my close friends use, even migrated to work. i have used
it on the net for years. My best friend calls and leaves a message, wendywoo
i love you! makes my day.
when i was in jr high i had a class with a wendy, misty, rainey, and a stormy.
boy did they tease ua all.
love and peace to all wendys,

Hi Wendy,
I love your web-site! I never gave my name a lot of thought...but the things
that people have written seem strangely true! We are awesome, lovely, talented,
good-hearted, and really lovable! What a blessing to find a connection to so
many other warm, wonderful Wendys! I am named after Wendy the Witch...my older
sister (who was three at the time) picked out my name...and I am glad she did!
I love being recognized by one name! Kinda like Cher!
It's a great time to be Wendy!

Hi. My husband actually discovered your website. (He must've been thinking
of me at work.) Then he shared it with me at our local cybercafe, Java Dog,
in Springfield, IL.
My mother was a fan of Peter Pan and told me that she named me after Wendy
Darling. I am the oldest child. My younger brother's name is Michael. She
had two more boys, but got religion and named them Matthew and Daniel.
Otherwise they may have been Jon and Schmee.
I was born in September 1968 and am a Virgo. It's funny that the characteristics
of a "Wendy" are very similar to a "Virgo". My middle name is Lee, after my
father--just like all my other siblings. (Another Wendy that e-mailed you also
has siblings with the same middle names.)
I always hated my name when I was younger and insisted that my parents and friends
call me "Susie". At present, I am very thankful my name is Wendy and not Susie.
Nicknames or taunts included: Wendy windbag; Wendell; Wendell Rae; Wendy-o;
Wendalita; Wen; Wendy pooh; Whendy; and Dee Dee. I joke that if I wanted to become
an exotic dancer, my stage name could be Windy Canyon. There seems to be a lot of
those types of girls named Wendy.
Thanks for a fun website that gives me yet another excuse to focus on me, me, me.

I would not want my name to be anything but- Wendy Leigh. I was born in
Oregon in 1976 and was named Wendy because my mother simply liked eating
there when she was pregnant. I was teased during my childhood years, but
it was all fun and games. I go by Wendy or Wend. I am a Virgo and I
think that Wendy is the most perfect name for one. I hope everyone that
is named Wendy reads this and just knows how special we all are. Thank
you for your time.

Oh my!!! I feel like I just stepped out of the Twilight Zone. I just read
some of the letters and I had some connection with all of them. It's so
true that WENDY'S are somewhat magical people and since childhood, I've
always felt special. When I was little, I hated my name, because I wanted
to be normal like Lisa or Kim. But I soon realized that I was born a Wendy
and there is something special to it. I have been called all the typical
nicknames, but WendyO was a 'teenage years' name given to me by my big
brother and his friends (that would come over to see me, and not my brother-
ha ha) and it just stuck. I, too, like to be called Wen, it says alot about
the effect you've had on someone when they call you that only after just
meeting you.
I am so proud that other WENDY'S feel the same, I should have known! Cheers
to all the other WENDY'S out there!

Subject: Yet Another
I am a Wendy born in 1950. My name is Wendy Lee, not too original since
everyone in my family has the same middle name. Wendy was one of the
last 2 names on my parents' list (if they were stuck with a girl). The
other was Marcia, which my younger sister got - I do like Wendy better
than that... I don't know why they liked the name except that my mother
is named Ruth, which she hates, and she wanted something more modern.
I have come to like my name less and less as I grow older. Somehow it
doesn't suit me and so new people have a hard time remembering my name.
No one has been able to tell me what I should be named though... I have
always wanted a more traditional name that didn't end in a diminutive
'y'. I have pretty much just been called Wendy except by people who
don't hear well and say Windy. My life partner calls me Wen sometimes
and my niece calls me Wend. I usually sign myself just W.
Oddly, there were three Wendys in my graduating class in high school. 3
out of 420 isn't much I suppose next to the Cathys, Lindas and Susans.
I didn't meet any other Wendys until I was an adult and they were all
much younger. I haven't met a child called Wendy in at least 15 years
(and since I spent 25 years teaching preschoolers, I have met a lot of
children).

Hello from PA.
I, like every other Wendy, accidentally found your web page. Do you think
it is a coincidence?
my "Wendy" history....Both of my parents are from England, so I was excited
to see that the name Wendy originated there. They moved over to the United
States in 1962, but I wasn't born until 1972. I am the youngest of three.
My father always told my mother that he wanted to name his daughter Wendy,
but she never asked him why. They flipped a coin when I was born, and he
won! He just confessed 3 years ago to the reason why. He had a crush on
some girl with big you know what's and he has loved the name ever since. I
think you can understand my mothers and my disgust. Thanks to your website,
my mother and I can save face!! I'll be sure to share the information with
her as soon as I get home.
Nicknames:(sorry about the spellings)
Wendall, Qwendalyn, When, Windy, Wacky Wendy, Wend-a-mean-a, Wendy
Whiner(Saturday Night Live), Wendy's Hot & Juicy (Wendy's Commercials), and
Wendy Wattles.
The last nick name came from my swimming days. Have you ever watched a
swimmer get water out of their ears? They jump up and down and wattle from
side to side. Well, that's where the nick name came from "Wendy Wattles."
Ideas:
(you may have used these and I haven't found them yet!)
A tally of Wendy middle names. (Mines Michelle)
A map locating all of the Wendy's around the world.
A list of good come back lines to famous quotes like: How's Dave?
A list of attributes such as hobbies, careers, sports, and even eye color,
etc.
Networking!! Hey I think we could all help eachother out!
Thanks for your time! I loved the website!!

Hi! This is a really cool website. I just kind of stumbled on it by
accident too. I've always liked being named Wendy. It's not so common
that you run into a Wendy everywhere you go, but not so unusual that other
people don't know how to spell it, etc. I was born in 1972, and going
through school, there was only one other Wendy, but at least 4-5 Jennifers
in every grade/class.
Here's the origin of my name, as I know it: My mother (who is German)
worked in England for a time as a young adult for a wealthy English family
as a servant - this would have been in the late 1950s. While there, she
knew a girl named Gwendolyn who was called Wendy. My father disliked names
that could be given nicknames, so for us children they chose Diana, George,
and Wendy. Of course, as we grew up we all got some kind of nickname
anyway - mine was Winkie (which grew out of a German word).
Whenever I go to Wendy's restaurant to eat, I always try to fill out a
suggestion card and say that they should run a promotion giving people
named Wendy a free meal on their birthday or something. (Or Wendell, not
to discriminate) I tell them that there aren't that many of us, but so far
no response. Maybe if some other Wendys would like to participate in this,
something will happen!

Wendy,
I am seventeen years old. I have come across this page because my ex
boyfriend was in the lab with me and being stupid and put my name in and
came up with this. I did not realize there was so many other Wendy's in
the world. I have never met another Wendy. Like all of the others
though, I have been called many different names. When I was younger I
use to hate my name. The day I was born my mothers younger brother and
his girlfriend were coming to see me in the hospital. His girlfriend
asked him what my parents had named me and he forgot. Five minutes
later they drove past a Wendy's restaurant and he said oh yeah they
named her Wendy. From that day on I was teased about my name and the
restaurant. Thanks for all of the great Wendy stuff.
Always,

Hey Wendy!!
This is a cool site!! I love my name..it's great! I was in the mall
the other day with my friend and this guy was like "you're name's
Wendy right?" and my friend was mad that he didn't remember her name.
He said "well, I eat there all the time so it's easy to remember that
name." I was like ok..I kinda laughed, but not too much. It was funny.
I get some pretty weird nicknames like for example: Wendy Lou,
Winnie Poo, Wendell, Wendy Luke, Wendy Pendy, Breezy, Blowy, Stormi,
Win. I got the nickname Wendell by my ex-boyfriend singing "Who's that
girl working up at Winn dixie..( blah blah blah ) Everyone knows it's
WENDELL!!"
My brother just married a Wendy, so it's kinda hard when people say
"hey Wendy" We both turn around... Well..this is cool to see so many
Wendy's..i was the only Wendy when I was in school so it was really
cool! Except when I got in trouble....only one Wendy....uh oh!

Hi Wendy!!!
I have to agree with the other Wendys, this site is really neat! I had
no idea there were so many other Wendys and I can't help but to feel
connected to all of them! I wish I could write to some of them to say,
"I know exactly what you are talking about!"
I'm 26, born Nov. 20th, and was named after a girl my parents went to
school with. I've only met 5 other Wendys in my life. I'm Wendy Ann
and some of my nicknames are Wen, Wendolyn, Wendikins, & Wendina.
I just finished watching "Hook" on TV and it reminded me of a comment
made by a co-worker that the name "Wendy" was created by the author of
Peter Pan. Peter Pan has always been my favorite Disney story, and I've
often wondered if there were any Wendys in the world who have met and
married a "Peter". :) Anyway, I decided to check the internet for the
history of our name, not really expecting to find anything. I have to
say, your site was a pleasant surprise and I will be sure to visit
often.

Hi Wendy,
I just wanted to write and tell you a bit about my life as a Wendy. My mother
says I was named after my great-grandfather, William. I started to doubt this
a bit when I realized that my parents named my little brother Michael. To
boot I have a cousin Jon. I once dated a Peter and the teasing was merciless.
I was thrilled to learn that my name was born out of the story of Peter Pan.
I think it is a magical thing to have your name come from a favorite fairy
tale. Then I saw all of those commercials for Wendy's hamburgers - believe it
or not my dad's name is Dave! I love my name. It is not a nickname nor a
shortened name, but the real thing. When I meet another Wendy it is like we
have a true instant connection. I think the name Wendy makes a person think
of nice things. I love when the little kids I work with imagine and pretend
I'm really Wendy Darling from Peter Pan.
Thanks,

Howdy there Wen!
I just love when people shorten my name to Wen, it shows how familiar and
comfortable someone is with me. But I have always said that I LOVE my name.
Wendy is rare and magical.
I was surfing the web and found your site and though "Of course we Wendy's of
the world need our own website!! Why didn't we think of it sooner?"
My brother likes to call me Winifred, and then he even shortens that to Fred,
which I guess isn't that bad as long as your're my brother. But I sincerely
believe that anyone named Wendy has a special quality about them. There IS a
magical and childlike quality that we retain, no matter what our age. When
someone says our name, we always turn and smile with a mischievous grin. Can
you ever remember someone saying Wendy angrily? I can't. And don't you just
love being the one person among your friends to sign simply - W. at the end of
a letter. Everyone knows who that is!
To all the Wendy's of the world - I LOVE YOU ALL! Let us all remember what
close sisters we are!!
Love,
Wendy.

Wendy,
I was so thrilled to find your page! (Although my husband was not! He
lost me for the whole evening!) Anyway, I wanted to share my experiences
as not just a Wendy, but a Wendy Ward!
Yes, I really felt special as a child having TWO W's in my name. Now that
I'm married and that no longer applies, I've discovered a new appreciation
for a name that stands alone and has an identity, never mind my husband's
surname! :) I think we're lucky we can go it alone, like "Madonna" or
"Oprah".
Anyway, I was also named after the Peter Pan Wendy. Apparently my parents
were watching the movie just a few days before I was born and liked it. I
have had all the usual nicknames; Winnie (as in Pooh), Wendell, Wen, Wendy
Sue, Wendy Bird, and Wendelum. The last one stuck among my high school
friends. My friend was talking to me and said, "Wendell, um..." and
decided to put it together. Then came the song she made up forever
labeling me Wendelum! It seems lots of songs are made up using our name.
Actually, my husband loves my name because he says you can insert it in any
song that has the word "baby" and it sounds perfect! You can't beat being
serenaded to all the time.
That's plenty for now. Thanks for your site, I've enjoyed it. By the way,
I'm an Aries born April 14. Talk about headstrong! :)

couple of Wendy's in my life time but not many. My family calls me Dubby.
It started with one of my sister's friend's calling everyone my the first
letter of there name. I obviously became W and then it went to Dub and then
Dubby. My friends call me Wen or Wenster. My bro used to call me ydnew
(wendy spelled backwards). Wendy is a cool name. Yee haaa. Maybe some or
our paths will cross one day. Hope to see you out there in Wendy World.
You're cool Wendy, thanks again for creating this. Take care of yourself.

Hi Wendy,
I have a co-worker named Wendy. We also carpool together in the
WendyMobile. When people see us together they say, "Hi Wendys!"
Its really kind of cool to send her an email and say Hi Wendy...bla bla

I have another friend in the same city named Wendy. I've always wanted
to do something with the three of us.
I don't know but I think there is something really different and special
about people named Wendy and it would be really cool to
have a Wendy convention or maybe nothing that big but to be in a place
where everyone has the same name would be kind of interesting.

Dear Wendy,
I just wanted to tell you some interesting facts:
-I got an email from a friend that joked that my name, Wendy, was
invented because of Peter Pan. I had to go to your site to find out.
Okay, so he was right.
-My mother and father split up before I was born, and I just recently
found out that the man that named me was named Bubba. Hmm...he had good
taste.
-A friend of mine's girl friend is named Wendy. Immediate connection, I
thought. She is 5'11 and about 180lbs. I am 5'0 and 100lbs. Because
my last name is Xxxxxxxxxx, I was simply called "Little Wendy."
Therefore, she was called "Big Wendy." She did not like this. We are
not friends. She says this is purely do to the fact that I am called
"Little Wendy" and she is "Big Wendy." Sigh!
Love,

Hi! I just finished reading some of your wonderful things on the Wendy
web site. I think it is great that you have created a web site just for
special people like us. I have been telling everyone in my office
about it and now they all want to know if there's one for their
name!
I found out about this web site from a friend of mine. He emailed me the
web address and said that I might want to check it out. He was right! As
with everyone I have had several nicknames along the way...Pooh,
Wendy Sue, Wendy Lou, Wenifred, Wendal, Wendalyn, Stormy, Breezy,
etc. Unlike most people that have emailed you, the way I got my
name didn't have anything to do with Peter Pan. I am the youngest of
seven girls (yes, ALL girls) and since there is a nine year age difference
between my next sister and I they of course all wanted to have a part in
naming me. As you can imagine with eight people trying to agree it took a
while. In fact it wasn't until they got to the W's that they all did agree. I tell
my mom that I am thankful they didn't have to reach the Z's!
I have always liked my name and think that it is wonderful that you have
this site that we can visit and chat with others like us. Keep up the good
work.

Strange writing to another Wendy... All through school we'd always
have two Jessica's, two Jan's, two Ben's and about six John's, but

I looked up my full name (Wendy Xxxx) on ICQ, and found four... four
more than I expected! It was strange, but pretty nice - you feel this
immediate kinship.
Anyway, that's a great site/domain you have there... it's informative
and has great content, instead of just being a domain name.

I am a computer graphic artist. 5'11 and redheaded.... that seems to be a common trait too :)
All your fans were lucky..... i was called windex by one of my greatest friends :)
Wendylou was another but that one was legit - my full name is Wendy Louise.
Just wanted to tell you great page!

Hi Wendy
I was just playing around on the internet, so I typed in www.wendy.com,
expecting a "this address cannot be found" or whatever. But, there it
was , a whole website on my name! I'm twelve years old and I hate being
called Wendylou! I'm am also teased when i meet someone named Peter! I
thought, along with Wendy Messly, that i ws probably the world's only
Wendy. I mean , there's all these other names like"Sarah" and " Natalie"
and all these new names. I've told every one that I hate my name, but I
don't really, and Sarah and Natalie are all pretty boring if you think
about it! i bet ten percent of girls that I meet are named Sarah, I'm
not kidding! So I should probably go, see ya when i see ya, keep up the
good work! Wendy

Hi!
My name is Wendy and I`m from Norway. There are not many Wendys in Norway,
but I think you can find one or another if you try. I`m 24 years old and
study on a teachers school. This year I`m studying music. I play the
guitar and piano and I sing. Well I don`t know what more to write about
myself......well, I think it`s strange if I meet another person who is
called Wendy, cause I am used to be the only one......you know......It is

Hi,

My name is Gwendolyn, but I have always been called Wendy. Full name is
Wendy North.
Boy can you guess how much teasing I get???
I was born in Mexico City and my mother's best friend was from India. Her
dad was the coach of the Indian field hockey team there for the Olympics.
Her name was Wendy and that is why I was named Wendy. I associate more with
Wendy than Gwendolyn, but I never will answer to Gwen!! people always
remember my name when I tell them it's just like Wendy's "Hot and Juicy"
I'm in sales*** what can I say???
Thanks for the home page and you are bookmarked forever

love my name even more now! I'm 22 and have never met another Wendy. I
love your site! My parents don't know why they named me Wendy, they
just "liked it". My brother is Michael and this, they claim, has
nothing to do with Peter Pan. My middle name is Jean eeeeeek. Anyway,

Hi Wendys,
Noticed a couple of things..Do we really change the ending of our names to
the plural (Wendies) when we band together? And what are we called? "a flock
of Wendies, a bunch of Wendies, a herd? Anyway, my contribution to the Wendy
e-mails. I was born Jan. 11, 1956, a verrrry late child with two sisters much
older than me. My oldest sister chose my first name, and my middle sister, my
middle name which is Denise (that MUST be unique). Also haven't seen listed my
most hated nick-name which was Wendeldorf (from my bully next-door neighbor).
Please add me to the list of Wendys who have always liked their names, and
wouldn't know what to do with a different one.

Dear Wendy,
I'm totally enjoying your (our?) web site. It does seem like Wendy's are
special people. Maybe because the name isn't obnoxiously different, but not
the same old Susie-Debbie-Cindy-Mindy-Nindy-Dindy kind of name, if you know
what I mean.
As for nicknames, Wen, Wend, Wendell, Wendell-Fendell, Wendela, - but more
than any other name I'm called Della by my husband. We were in the
beginning/total infatuation stage of our relationship when Nelson Mandela was
prominent in the news. From Mandela, he got Wendela, and somehow the Wen part
got dropped, and Della I have become (to him, anyway).
And I married this man...
Anyway, I was born in 1960 and knew two other Wendys growing up - Wendy Joy
Bornstein and Wendy Sue Gardner (I'm also a Wendy Sue). Both outstanding
individuals. I've met very few Wendys since then. Until NOW, that is.
And I hate being called Wendy O. Williams, or sung the "Windy" song (which was
never "Wendy") - both of which plague the unimaginative... or being told
"Wendy's Hot and Juicy and Coming Fast" (how could someone think this was a
good slogan for a hamburger?).
Oh, and one other thing - I have a cousin who liked the name Wendy Sue so much
she named her daughter Suzanne Wendy.
However, I think our name is definately fading away. The little girls I know
have names like Rose, Emma, Simone, Lena - old lady names.
Well, thanks for the great site!

Hi, I'm Wendy (as you already know), middle name Elizabeth. I'm 23 and I
live in Eugene, Oregon.
As a young child I always hated my name. When I was in preschool I asked a
boy I had a crush on if I could swing on the swing he just got off of and he
said, "No! You make too many hamburgers!" That's what made me hate my name.
(Which I like very much now!)
I have many nicknames many of which were made up by my best friend. I've
been called Wen, Wend, Dee-Dee (made up by my younger brother when he was a
baby), Deed, Wendy Lou, Wendy Jo, Windemere, Winnebago, Wannabagel, Winnie,
Winnie Pooh, Wendell, Windy, and many others that I can't remember.
My father was the one who wanted to name me Wendy. Actually he gave my
mother no choice.
Just wanted to share with all the other Wendys out there!

Dear Wendy:
Guess you figured that out just by me sending you this. Wendy-Bird, Wendy
Lou, Wendell (hate that one) and most of the other nicknames. Seems like too
many people have fun with our name.
I hated my name bad enough to change it Kaye (My mother's & my middle name),
but grew up, got over it, and decided it made me unique to have this name.
So what do I do? Name my son Tristan. Talk about retribution, if I could take
it so could he.
Wendy let a windy, hated that too!
I guess it wouldn't be so bad being a Wendy if it wasn't for the fact my other
screen name is WSmith, now everyone thinks I'm Will Smith.
Also being an extrovert (I love to talk) and 6' tall redhead, with loud voice
nobody forgets me.
But guess what I love it.
Yours Truly Brunhilda (just kidding)

Well, I have just spent the past 20 minutes reading the letters from Wendy.
I noticed some nicknames - I have a few more to add to the mix - Wendel (my
friends are Mindel and Friendel), Wendel-Fendel (from my family), Wendy Kiss
and "Wendy's hot and juicy" - I bet it was not the same since my last name
starts with "Hot" and ends with "Kiss"
In any case, one question, where did Wendybird come from. So many of the
Wendy's had that as their nickname and I never heard of it before - can you
give me the origin.
Thanks for making my day - this is quite a site.

Winnie Pooh, Boo Boo(an old boyfriend), Wanda(latest and greatest), and
Droopy(that one's in relation to the droopy eye I have)!
Anyway, I wanted to tell you a few things....my best friend named her
daughter after me. I just recently moved to D.C. where they live and have
been sharing a bunkbed with "Little" Wendy for the past year. Her middle
name is Yvette. She's 8 and I'm 29! Of course, I have the bottom bunk.
She thinks it's great, though. To avoid confusion, she calls me "Aunt."
Simple, but it gets the job done. Two Wendy's in the same household....we
drive her mother crazy, let me tell you!
My mother got my name from Peter Pan and when I told "Little" that she
loved it even more....of course, that was one of her favorite movies
anyway.
I have printed off alot of the fun information from the web site and am
going home to show "Little" all of it....I can't wait!

I have hated my name my whole life - can't stand it.
Whenever I see anything on the name Wendy it says Wendy "The Wanderer".
I think it's true - I've not been able to settle any where for any
length of time. Where I live - where I work - friends I keep - just
everything. I hate my name - it's made me the person I am. I can't
believe there are so many other Wendys. I hope we are all not

I wish that I could somehow contact the girl who said her middle name is

happy, although she has admitted that the meaning was fading out at that
time, and being replaced with the current meaning! You wouldn't believe

I cheat and tell people it's "Gail" or "Jill."
My mom always said I should marry someone with the last name of "Storm" -

Hi Wendy:
I was playing around on the internet, and came across your website. I
think this is wonderful. I grew up in a very small town in central New
York, and I was the only Wendy in the town. The worse thing, was that my
Dad named me, and my middle name is Gail. I have lived with the nickname
of "Stormey" most of my life, which fits. I was very interested in the
fact that Wendy did not become a popular name in the US until the 60's. I
was born in the 50's. I guess that makes me very unique. I think the
funniest thing about being named Wendy is that when I met my husband. We
had been going out for awhile, and he asked me to meet his son. His name
is Michael John. I thought that was an omen, and Marvin and I just
celebrated our 22 wedding anniversary. It must have been.
I enjoy your site, and I have marked it as a favorite. I know that my
other two sons will get a charge out of it. Please feel free to contact me
at E-mail. It will be fun to be in contact with other Wendys.
Worst comparison: People ask me how Dave is!!

Howdy from NC! You guessed it, I am also a Wendy, but I bet no one else
has the same middle name. My name is Wendy Gay, named after my mother. I
used to hate it when I was a kid for obvious reasons but it sort of grows
on you. Some of my more popular nicknames are Wendy the Pooh, Wind Bag,
Window, and my best friend in high school always called me Breezy. That
name seemed to stick more than the rest.
I read one e-mail that you received from another Wendy saying that her
grandmother spelled her name Windy until she was 7 years old. I'd just
like to say that I am 23 and my grandmother still spells my name like that.
I think having a web page in our honor is wonderful. I live in a small

Wendy's to chat with than I know what to do with! Keep up the good work!

My email & nickname is "Wendyha" because one day my friend, who speaks some

Hi Wendy!
My name is Wendy and I am six years old. My mom is helping me write this,
'cause I can't type very fast. Me and Mom were looking up fun stuff and
put in my name and found Wendy's World. I never knew that my name was tied
to peter pan's Wendy, although my older sibs at the time were convinced
mommie and daddy named me after her.
My mom named me Wendy after my Grandmother, who died before I was born. Mom
made a promise to herself that there would be another Wendy! I am the only
Wendy I know...and my problem is everyone thinks I am saying my name is
Whitney. My nicknames are Wen, Winnie the Pooh, Wen-Wen, Wendy-Chrissy

Howdy from Texas!
Your website is a trip! I had no idea that you'd created such a thing
for us Wendies! Like lots of the other Wendies, I was named after my
mom's favorite doll who was herself named after Peter Pan's Wendy. Wendy
Susan, the middle name for my beloved paternal grandmother.
Then a year after I was born, my sister came along. My dad, upset that
he didn't get to use his favorite *boy* name, was stalling on choosing a
name for her. Finally my mother said, "How about Gwendolyn?" And he went
for that. She got the middle name of the other grandmother: Ada. (Boy,
what a bad deal!).
Then years later, we read in a name book that Wendy is a diminuitive of
Gwendolyn! (Not all sources cite your James Barie reference.) So now,
like that famous Bob Newhart show, we kid that my brother can say about
us: "This is my sister, Gwendolyn, and my other sister, Gwendolyn."

Hello Wendy,
It's weird writing your own name at the top of a mail.
I also just typed my name in a Internet address and to my surprise
I found all sorts of things about my name and about other Wendy's.
I'm from the Netherlands. The name Wendy is fairly common here..
I didn't have the problem Wendy's restaurant (we only have McDonalds and Burger King here) but we did have a TV personality here that presented a very sexy program and that gave me a nickname that I really didn't care for. She stripped and appeared naked on TV (this is possible in the Netherlands).
I'm glad to find out that I'm not the only Wendy that is "a bit" strange.
I'm 24 and I go by mij chineese sign (Tiger) instead of my western sign (Aqerious).
My parents just named me Wendy because they liked the name.
They don't remember how they came up with this name.

Dear Wendy:
I came across your page completely by accident!! But I had to write and
tell you my nicknames usually did not have anything to do with my first
name, but a couple that stuck did. My best friend in high school called
me Wen and my Grandfather (who passed away Christmas Eve, 1996) called
me Wendybird. Naturally I thought that would be an appropriate address
for my e-mail, but do you know there are 80 some Wendybirds (or
Wendibird) on the internet?!! I really was floored when I was advised
the name was taken and I could use Wendybird83 or 84. I used a
different variation, as you can see.
I don't have a homepage, but I am a medical transcriptionist in
Louisville, Kentucky. My mother considered naming me Gwendolyn so that
I would have a "real" name when they asked in school, but she was afraid
I would get the nickname Gwen which she did not like so she just named
me Wendy and I put up with the teachers always asking what my real name
was. I have loved the story of Peter Pan and Wendy since I was old
enough to ask for a particular story. I am also looking forward to
being Granny Wendy (as Robin Williams called her in "Hook"). I think it
suits me, it keeps me young!!!

Subject: Yet one more Wendy coming out of the cold
Hello Wendys!
I have been a Wendy for forty eight years!! I am hoping that one day I
become Grandma Wendy (even though it does seem a bit too cute). Growing
up I always wanted to have a long (sophisticated) name like Elizabeth or
Katherine. On the first day of school teachers always asked what was my
real name, assuming that Wendy was my nickname. My brother is named
Peter and had my sister (Debbie) been a boy she would have been dubbed
John Michael. Mom liked Peter Pan and the Andrews Sisters- I count
myself fortunate that I am Wendy and not Maxine!
My middle name is Lou, I was born on September 26th (Libra). Although
growing up I wasn't too keen on the name, I have grown to like the
uniqueness of it. However, a short time ago my secretary and my bosses
secretary were also named Wendy. A typical conversation was: "Hello,
this is Wendy. No you want the other Wendy. I am just covering for her
secretary, Wendy, but I will leave a message with Wendy". We called it
Lost in WendyWorld.
Thanks for the Wendy site and bye to all of you Wendys!
Regards, Wendy (the charming and witty one)

Wendy,
What an awesome idea for a website. Just like many others, I
just typed in my name and your page just popped up. My mom and I
had a real blast reading through all the mail you've received. The
nicknames sounded pretty familiar. "Wen" has been the one that stuck
though. The most interesting name I've been called was Wemble-berry.
My cousin has called me that for years. I kinda like it, it's different.
I have no interesting story about how I got my name. My parents both
liked it, and that's about it. Neither of them are big Peter Pan fans or
anything. Well I just thought I'd send you a quick note to say how happy
I was to find such a personalized website. It was a lot of fun. I'm sure
I'll be visiting often!!

Just another Wendy, if there is such a thing! I suffered through life
with the name Wendy King, which lead to endless fast-food restaurant
jokes from both sides ("Wendy's hot and juicy Burger King"). I have met
more people than I care to have met who know other Wendy King's-- I
could have sworn I was the only one! Well, I'm willing to bet I'm the
only Wendy VanKonynenburg. I have mostly been called "Wennies" by my
mom, and Wend or Gwen by my sister and friends. Lots of other
derivatives have come and gone, but these are the ones that have stuck.

Dear Wendy,
Just found your page last week on a lark. It's great! Especially
the history of the name. I knew that, because my older sisters
named me after the Peter Pan character (I was #6, and my mom must
have been too pooped to think of a name herself). Some of the
nicknames I have had to endure over the years are: Wendaddle,
Wendiferous Pooh, and Wendyloot.
Keep up the good work!

Woo-hoo! A Wendy page. Very cool.
Like many, I typed in "www.wendy.com" just in case... :)
After reading other Wendys' posts I felt like I was an automatic member
of "The Wendy Club". What a great club to belong to... such interesting
people.
I was named Wendy because my father liked "Peter and the Wolf" so had
chosen Peter for a boy's name (which I would be if I had been a boy).
Looking for a girl's name, the only one that seemed to fit was "Wendy".
When I was at Disneyland, I spotted the "Peter" character, and said as I
was Wendy I just had to have my photo taken with him. Naturally, he
obliged.

Hi to all the Wonderful Wendys out there!
I grew up in a neighborhood of boys, so, I wasn't really fond of such a girly
name like Wendy, but, I''ve obviously grown up (or are we like Peter Pan and
never grow up either?) and love the name now ....of course, Grandma Wendy
sounds like an oxymoron, but, what can we do? Anyway, here's my Wendy story
----
In college, one of my professors (in her mid-40's) was expecting her first
child and was due the same month that my birthday (May 11) was in. Joking with
my friends, I said that she would have her baby on my birthday and name the
baby after me! (mind you, I wasn't teacher's pet or anything, but we were in
a smallish department
and on friendly terms)
She had the baby in May, we heard it was a girl, but knew nothing else. Upon
paying a visit to the new mom and baby at the hospital, her husband was
telling us that the baby WAS born on May 11 and that they named her
Gwendolyn...but, that they would call her Wendy!! My friends were a bit
astonished, to say the least, and thought I was psychic (or a witch)... When
we passed my "prediction" on to the professor and her husband, they thought it
was pretty amazing too.
Your Wendy page is truly wonderful and I look forward to checking in to see
the wendy world continue to grow!

proud of my name. My name was chosen from a song on your list, by Bruce
Springsteen. As a youngster I wanted a name like Jennifer or Katie,
something cute. But now I am proud to be who I am, Wendy. I am very
outgoing and very funny (well I try) and well.. I don't think I am cut

After reading all the letters from other Wendy's I was very pleased to
hear we all like our name. I am wondering what middle names we have
come up with. Mine is Sue and as you all can imagine the Wendy Poo
comes to mind. Yes it was one of my favorites from my father. Wendels
P. Worm was definitely the one I remembered most. I also wondered
what kind of disposition or personality we might have in common. Heres
a little about me.
I was born on Friday the 13th In (the witching Month) October. I like black
cats and Halloween is my favorite holiday. I would say I am a happy
person and enjoy people. I have been called breezy and stormy. These
nicknames are due to the blonde hair. I am not the stupid blonde however
I play the part well. Sometimes it comes in handy.
I want to thank you Wendy and all the Wendy's out there. I will continue
to enjoy Wendy's World web site. Have a great day all.

After i was born, my mother named me Wendy, after Wendy the good witch

Hi from Downunder
As I was dreading starting another day at work, a friend e-mailed me the
address of World Wide Wendy and my day immediately improved - just hope it
stays that way.
I always love to read the meaning of names and several references had that
Wendy came from the Peter Pan story so I always had my suspicion that my name
came from a fairy tale. I didn't know the story behind the name Wendy in
Peter Pan and I think I like my name even more now!
I was always going to be a Wendy because my Mum loved the story Peter Pan and
also the good witch Wendy from Casper the Friendly Ghost. I think Wendy hit
its peak in 1972 in Australia because in my high school class there were 3
Wendys, but I haven't met too many people younger than me called Wendy.
Nicknames I had (and still do): Wenny, Wen, Wendles, Windy (hated this),
Wicked, Wend, Miss Wendy (character from TV) and Bindy (thanks to my brother
who got it from rhyming Windy and Bindy. Bindy being short for a weed that
grows in grass). Common sayings when I meet people for the first time are
"gee it's Windy today Wendy" and "Wendys Wendys Yum!" (from Wendy's Icecream)

Hi Wendy!
My name is Wendy, too and I just got a computer and learned to surf the
web. I was really impressed with your web site and thought that the
research you did on the origin of the name was pretty fascinating. I read
through some of your "interesting e-mails." One of the responses listed a
couple of nicknames that she had been called like Pooh, Wen-Wen, or
Wendella. And she asked about other people's nicknames.
Mine were always things of a more random nature like. . .Wendy-Bender,
Trendy-Wendy, Wendolina, Wendith, Wendoll, or "When." *rolls eyes* Now, I
just go by the nickname Wen.
Also, I think it is interesting that several Wendys mentioned people asking
if we could get free food at Wendy's restaraunt. Well, I actually DID get
free food when I was a kid. I would go there and say, "Hi, my name is
Wendy!" because I was soooooo proud and because when you're little you
think everybody finds life as fascinating as you do. But, the clerk gave
me free food because I was "spetchel." I mean, hey, aren't we all?

Hey! I, like many other Wendy's before me, decided to look myself up
on the web. Much to my suprise I was there! I only had a chance to
glance at your site, but what I saw really amazed me. I am an artist
who is currently working with her mother trying to find out my
geneaology. Also I compiled a list of songs that my name appeared in
(all were included on your list). I however heard that the name Wendy
was derived from the name Wanda, whuch supposedly means wondering one,
and I always assumed that it really came from Gwendylyn since the name
Wendy is actually spelled inside of it. I did hear that it first
originated in Peter Pan, but I wasn't prepared to accept that. Now I
have submitted to my fate of being a mother type personality as has
been doomed to me by that story. By the way, you forgot to add all
the songs from the musical to your song list. my father has them all
on tape if you need them. Also, an interesting fact about me is that
I was born in 1975, the same year that Born to Run came out.
Coincidence? My parents say so. Who knows?
I promise to return to the Wendy site at a later time. Until then,
thank you for putting me on the web!

Subject: One day, Wendys will rule the world!
Wendy,
I was really delighted by this page! I am a new college student, and
rather homesick. The other day, my exploring father found the page and
sent the address to me. I had no idea that there were so many Wendys,
but it has always been my belief that all Wendys are awesome, with the
possible exception of Wendy O. Williams, whose last name I share.
Unfortunately, she came into popularity when I was younger and I have
since spent my life dealing with questions about my whip.
I do love the name, it is uncommon enough that you aren't usually
confused, like the unfortunate Jennifers of the world. I have yet to
meet another Wendy here, but there was another in my high school, who
was of course in many of my classes.
The only other unfortunate trait of the name is the restaurant. I also
have red hair, which marks me as a clear target for the "Could you get
us some free food?" comments. Like many Wendys, I endured the singing
of the Windy song, my closer friends even changed the lyrics to make it
more appropriate. But the downfalls of the name are few and
insignifigant! Long Live Wendys!

interesting to read on your page where the name Wendy came from. I always

Dear Wendy,
As I'm sure you've guessed...........I'm a Wendy.
When I was growing up in Maine, there were no Wendy's. There WAS a boy named
Wendall in my 3rd grade class. I don't think I need to tell you what our
nicknames were... I beat up many a boy in grade school for calling me that.
After moving to New Hampshire, Massachusetts, Califonia, New York, and Vermont,
I thought that I had finally escaped the "Wendall" nickname. Enter Xxxxx... my
friend, my lover, my husband. If I never believed in Karma, I do now. Not only
has he rekindled the old pseudonym IN MY OWN HOME... all his friends, my
friends, our co-workers, his ex-wife AND 7 (and 3/4) year old daughter...
All call me by this name!
I obviously can't beat them all up. (I'd like to think I've reached a higher
plateu) I had to come up with a way to deal with this childhood grievance. I
agreed to let my husband continue to call me this, but only if he changed the
spelling to WenDOLL (which made me feel better about the nickname.) Suprisingly,
it worked!
As a matter of fact, He's the only man that could get me to go to a WENDY'S after
their two marketing campaigns: "Where's the Beef?" and "Wendy's Hot & Juicy".
It must be love, because I will never forgive that company for the torment I went
through preteen, teen! I often wonder if other Wendy's felt the same.
Well... Thank you for the opportunity to share that!

WWW-ed over to Wendy.Com --- AND I LOVE IT!
I was actually named Wanda -- but they've called me Wendy since the moment I
popped out. 32 years later -- I've legally changed my name to Wendy to
reflect the person I have always been -- a Wendy!
Funny story: last week I went to my friend Wendy's wedding. Wendy's parents
are divorced -- her real dad married a woman who had a daughter named -- you
guessed it -- Wendy! The three of us were quite a site -- turning our heads
anytime we heard a wedding guest yell "WENDY!"
I wonder how many different middle names we Wendys share out there and if our

fun!)
For the record -- I'm Wendy Suzanne -- Capricorn -- born 12/28.

for a first name that was uncommon, but still easy to spell. They also
wanted a name short enough not to need a nickname.
Since I have a great affection for my name, I'm glad to see other
Wendy's do, too!

i just came across your page and am thrilled (or something) to see
my name on the list of wendys. the status of the name wendy has
certainly changed over the years. i am 47 years old, and when i
was a kid, people asked me how to spell wendy and if i was from a
different country. nobody was named a weird thing like wendy. that
was both good and bad (prestige, or teasing). then in 1961 or 63
was it, that lame tv show called wendy and me came on, and i thought
nothing of it until about 1980, when i suddenly started meeting all
these ~18 year old wendys. suddenly there were wendys everywhere.
i work with a wendy, i took a class with some wendys. it is kind of
aggravating, but seeing your list i see that all these wendys are
doing some interesting things. we are not a bunch of duds. and i
still think it is about the best name one can have.

Hi Wendy,
I was just poking around on the net and I found your list of Wendy
Songs. I noticed that "Windy" was added as an honorary Wendy song. I
just wanted to let you know that my name is, Windy, and I am named
after that song. I appreciate your being open minded enough to
include us . . . After all we are all Wendies on the inside.
