What's in Everyone's Nightstand?

Due to workload and an overwhelming amount of projects, I have had to discontinue the interactivity of this page. I'm leaving the results here for you to read and enjoy and wonder about, but won't be responding to mail regarding this page. Thanks to everyone who ever wrote me and to those of you still reading!

Hello, I just did a series of photos for a show I was in of what was in
people's nightstands. They were great portraits- especially the ones of my
family.

Anyway, from memory, here is mine but there is no "in" only "on":
a large catalog from the Art Nouveau Show at The National Gallery in DC
a waterglass with a piece of cork under it to protect the wood from wetness
two old issues of Harper's Magazine
a wooden bowl in the shape of a duck which contains a nail clipper, cuticle
cream, a wooden mermaid figurine, an small antique music maker (the kind
where metal prongs roll over a little drum that has pegs in places to make a
specific tune- I think it plays "King of the Road".
a small book of poems by Gerard Manly Hopkins which I haven't read yet
a travel alarm clock
a small box which contains a "gold" necklace that says Bob on it, a nail
file, matches from the Minzah Hotel in Tangier, a ring of my mothers.
one tall white candle resting on a wooden block
one short black candle resting on cork.

my nightstand is an upside down box fit over another box.. it has on
top:

this laptop [why get out of bed?] and it's network connection
 wallet
 keys
 pager
 pencil
it HAD a click-click separate eraser, but someone came and took it
 while i wrote this!
 palmpilot

Inside.. hmm.. I haven't looked inside :)
Black trash bag, Wine newsletter, horn from a car alarm system

rock [empty], plastic Recorder (instrument), LEGO space shuttle guy and
pirate guy, keyring LED squeeze light, a single sock, a sandwich bag
with a UHF connector in it, an empty bag that held a 2 meter handheld
antenna.

I have a headboard and my top dresser drawer which I keep all my stuff in.

Well, most everything is UNDER my nightstand. That's life with a
neurotic calico. Everything On it ends up on the floor anyway. She
has a penchant for batting things out of her way. I have a teensy alarm
clock, a lamp, and usually a few hair clips.

Under my nightstand I have 3 or 4 assorted journals is various stages of
neglect, a copy of "Dance of a Fallen Monk" (slightly wrinkled from a
September rainstorm), a copy of "Thunder and Lightening" by Natalie
Goldberg, a cup of water used more often by Tink the cat than by me.

Yes. I'm Wendy and I have a cat named Tink. No Peter though.... but
that's another story.

Lets see, my nightstand is actually a footlocker trunk thing (teal blue with
brass finishings). On top is...
Sony stereo with 3 cd changer and 2 speakers
CD shelf that fell off the wall and now sits on my stereo

Dear Wendy. Here is exactly what is on my night stand. A white battenburg
table cloth. A Brides magazine, a book about the Kings and Queens of
England. A collectors porcelain doll book, a magazine about miniature doll
houses, an unpublished edition of a novel, obtained by someone in the
business. A small ratty flower arrangement. The new Frank McCourt book that
I got for Christmas and an empty Sherry glass left over from last nights
reading in bed. Boy I never really thought about it, but you can sure tell
who you are from what is on your nightstand. I am so boring....

This is almost better than what's on your desk!

Above my nightstand hangs a stocking (sent to me by a Wendy) that has an inscription
stitched on it: FRIENDS MAKE THE BEST DECORATIONS
On the nightstand there is a book (also sent to me by a Wendy) of inspirational verses
of daily living. In the upper left corner of the nightstand is my telephone next to the
caller ID and the alarm clock (indiglo type so I can see time while sleeping...duh!).
In the upper right corner is a weird machine that makes soothing nature's sounds to
drown out other noises or fill the void of silence. A few coins and bits of paper seem
to be forgotten amid all the electronic media.

first of all, has anyone noticed what a wierd word nightstand is? what does it mean...
the thing we stand on at night? the thing we stand things on at night? if the latter,
then why is there an inside? we don't stand things inside it. just griping.

second, i can't believe no one admitted to having a dildo in her nightstand.
I ADMIT IT. in fact, i have two, for various moods.

In mine is a pair of handcuffs, a S&W 38 special and copies of playboy. Boy
would Freud have a field day with that.

Indiana,"wave machine", phone, lamp, lotto tickets, one postage stamp.

lots of dust .. old socks ... dusty lamp .. several books ... markers
... a candle

My nightstand is about to be replaced, but before it makes
its way up to the great big Bedside-Table-Heaven in the sky
I'd like to immortalise it on the web. It's the least I
can do. It's a small white table with little green handles
and three drawers (one of which sticks). Inside it's full
of postcards, letters and old plane tickets which I could
never bring myself to throw away (I'll have to be buried
with them!) and sitting on top it has:

1.Lots of contact lens solutions...
2.Three candles, Two scented and one with alleged mystical
properties that I bought in Byron Bay Australia.
3, A silver wristwatch
4. Two red velvet ribbons
5. A deck of Tarot cards
6. A picture of my fiance in full-pads-football-uniform

Well, in New Zealand they're called bedside tables .... mine is not very
interesting .... (recently dusted though) ...
- Alarm clock with massive easy touch snooze button
- Two wedding photos
- Home Made Teddy Bear
- bits of jewellry
- TV Remote
- Pregnancy Journal.
Yay. not so interesting, but I wanted to take part all the same ...

on my night stand. ummm well
ok here goes
candles, picture frames, incense holders, lighers, 2 spell books, statue of
dragon, scary novels, perfume, lip gloss, nail polish, bottle of sping
water, reading glasses and money- spare change, inside of it there is
magazine, underware, books, pens, and thats it!

As far as what's on my nightstand...I have a makeshift ledge near my
window that I call my nightstand. 1. Alarm clock fom Rite Aid, 2.a clip-on
desk lamp, 3. My remote control (wand of divining - PBS for the brain,
CNN for the head, Frazier for the gut and Ally McBeal for the heart), 4.
Seven Samurai, Sis Wendy's The Story of Painting, MLK's I Have a Dream, PBS
Frank Lloyd Wright doccumentary, Charlie Rose interviews Francoise Gilot and
Night of the Living Dead on Video, 5. CPAP (Controlled Positive Air Pressure)
Machine for sleep apnea, 6. a box of condoms, 7. bigass bottle of Jergens (refer
to when 6 is not in use), 8. a copy of the bible (fiction makes me sleepy).
That's about it. Sordid, incoherent, messy. In a word or two, Bachelor's stand.

I have of course the standard issue socks, panties, bras and the very
special top drawer is the diary with only two VERY LONG entries, a pen, my
sunglasses case, my leather gloves waiting for the cold to return, a book
(the Alienest at the moment). And unfortunately, that about covers it! I
wish I had something a little more racey but that's it from this

Hi Wendy,
I certainly am enjoying your web page. As for what is in/on my
nightstand...well, in the two drawers are 20+ years accumulation of
assorted pantyhose, knee hi hose etc. which I keep telling myself that one
day I will sort thru and throw away about 95%. You know the elastic rots,
etc. and besides I could use the drawer space. Now, on my nightstand is the
usual lamp, clock radio/cassette player, tv remote, battery travel alarm
(for insurance that I get up on time), a book "Daily Meditations for Women"
(very inspirational), a blank diary (just in case I get a wonderful idea
for art or some profound thought), pencil for writing in same, telephone
and a can of Bag Balm (great for greasing the feet to soften them. You
don't want to walk around the house with it on your feet for obvious
reasons, but works great.) So there you have it.
Gail

I am incredibly anal when it comes to what I keep in drawers and tables. In
my nightstand I have two sharpened pencils and a legal pad in case I need to
write down any epiphanies. The only other thing in their is my Dessert Eagle
and several HE rounds for it. A copy of a novel my son wrote is on top. I
really don't like it but I want to support his efforts. Thanks

Let's see, on the nightstand there is a clock radio and my mother's old
copper lamp and sometimes a book - but if there is anything more the
cats knock it off. Usually the book is on the floor.
Inside the drawer there are sore throat lozenges, cards I received while
in bed (a habit we have) a sex toy and my book light and its adapter.
On the lower shelf there is the phone (with the ringer removed so it
doesn't scare us at night) and last year's phone books - and dust, lots
of dust.

From the boyfriend of a Wendy:

Since my nightstand is a make-shift coffee table I'll tell what is around
and on it...

Clock Radio, a phone, Obsession for men bottle (half full), a book (West
With The Night), a flashlight, a stack of Christmas cards of people that
I have to write back to, the PC I am typing this on, stack of 1998 tax
documents that need filing, the black phone book, a UAL timetable so I
can schedule a time to fly and see Wendy, two pictures of my woman and
myself, calculator, assorted pens and pencils, a garbage can underneith
and bunch of bills next to that. Sorry, nothing intimate. I'll write
back as soon as we get something good to put in a real nightstand.
Thanks and nice site!

Well, Wendy...

What a cool name! On my nightstand;
a t.v.
a picture of my grandma and grandpa
a picture of my homecoming date
a journal
a candle

What is in my nightstand;
a bunch of old worthless papers
old pictures
highlighters and pens
a flashlight

from an Oregionian Wendy

Well,... I have a bunch of newsweek magazines that I use for teaching
English, a book of poetry (Jewel) I was just given, a silver candle,
my pencil collection and a jewelry case with my silver jewels. Probably
a few coins and a lipstick.
Nothing much, uh?

A Mexican Wendy

somethings that are on my night stand:
glasses, clock, picture frame with card in it, stuffed elmo,
remote to my tv and stero, sometimes a glass of water, my phone
and nothing special.

from a wendy in georgia

On top of my night-stand I have a touch-lamp with a sticker-picture of my
boyfriend from years ago, a boom-box, some lip balms for midnight chap-attacks,
candles, (Green for sexuality) tons of clippies, (hair clips) a picture of my
boyfriend and I at the homecoming dance, my tv remote, a lighter for my candles,
and I used to have an incence holder but I dunno where it went and a huge
collection of assorted incences.

In my nightstand: a diary with a rubber band as a lock, (only child =-]) a condom
which I have to throw away cuz it's kinda icky (and new, too =-[), batteries for
my vibrator, the book "THE GUIDE TO BETTER SEX", some cardboard (came as a sheath
for a bunch of stickers I bought from the exits of WalMart, a weight-loss guide
(dusty =-[) and a list of ideas for what I want to do with my boyfriend
(not all sexual, some just plain romantic! well.. most sexual ;-) ), and I think
that's about it...

Well here goes from Wendy in Rochester NewYork.
I have these items on my night stand.
1} two baby dolls
2} 3 stuffed rabbits
3} a boom box
4} pictures of Artist formally known as Prince
5} Clock with big numbers and big sound
6} chap stick
7} unicorn music box
8} earrings i took off the night I sleep
9} a thermometer
10} a back scratcher
11} music tapes
That's all i can give you for now. Sorry not too exciting haaaahaaahaaaaa

I have these things in and on my nightstand:

- bronchial inhalators
- kleenex
- alarm clock/radio
-lamp
- bunch of purses
- books
- diary
- pen
- nose stuff (like vics vaporub)
- receipts
- condoms

Here's what is on my nightstand..
My 3-way touch lamp
alarm clock
ALWAYS a book of some form (right now it's a John Grisham novel)
Then every once in awhile a glass of water

What's in my nightstands.....since I told you what was on my "temporary
desk" (my coffee table) I guess I can tell you whats in my nightstands!
Hold for a sec....I have to go upstairs and take a look! LOL
Inside:
*about 10 different children's books (my son crawls into bed with me
every night....thank god I'm a single parent so there's plenty of room
for the "kicker")
*about 20 different kinds of novels ( I read EVERY night before I go to
sleep)
On top:
*an empty can of Pepsi
*an empty cigarette package (DuMaurier Ultra Lights)
*a doily
*a ghetto blaster which is basically toast but I can still hear
SOMETHING from it
*assorted barettes and scrunchies from what I wore in my hair that day
*a lamp
*an alarm clock with a broken snooze button....damn!
*dust
*used to have a tube of KY and some condoms but since I've been single
for so long they have retreated to the bottom of my dresser drawer...LOL

*the current novel I am reading ( a Harlequin Romance...okay so I'm
running out of reading material! but these things are actually pretty
damn good!)

I am the friend of a Wendy, neighbor of a Wendy, and frightened of a
Wendy, so that is my history of locating your sight. Anyways, on to the
nightstand.

My nightstand is not a nightstand, it is a 2 drawer file cabinet. So in
it are LOTS of papers and file folders. On ocaission I have found
glasses(reading) and keys at the bottom, however. On top of the file
cabinet is a picture frame that originally has a drawing of my 3 oldest
pets, but they are now covered up by many other pictures. There is also
a candle (forest scent) and a thing to put my ring in. (I don't honestly
think it has a name...) There is also a stack of books, including "The
Hitchhikers Guide to the Galaxy" series (yes, all 6 books) "Back/Slash"
and the phone book. There are also miscellaneous peices of junk mail.
On the side (secured with poster putty) are many pictures and momentos
of a friend who died last summer. And as morbid and twisted as my
"nightstand" sounds....I love it!

Thanks for asking about my nightstand, so few people do
these days.
On my night stand I found:

	*	1 Petzel Zoom headlamp. It has been with me for years.
	*	Several packs of condoms. It took time to find the right
size. One size does not fit all!
	*	"Hatch props", 1*300mm and 1*150mm. Both are Queensland
maple. These hold the hatch to my bedroom open.
	*	A large 316 stainless steel winch handle. just in case I
get visited at night. Guns aren't very popular in the south pacific.
	*	"Old Sidd". I have the cremated remains of an old sea
salt watching over me. He sails on even after death.
	*	I also have a neat crystal that was given to me by a
Polynesian guy when I purchased some chickens from him. He also wanted
me to have his daughter. I opted for the crystal.
	*	An assortment of once smelly and always beautiful sea
shells. Collected from around the Islands.
	*	A girls blue silk hair ribbon. Sweat memories.
	*	Dust (and dust mites I imagine.)

Most of this stuff is situated around my bunk(double) on board
my yacht "SOG".

Let's see, I have three telephones one with an alarm on it. (Only one phone
works, the one with the alarm) My wallet, my keys, some pens, my check book,
lots of pennies, lots of those damn bills, tickets to a future concert, extra
checks, my glasses, my extra pair of glasses, and last but not least I have
the lastest copy of "US news and world report".(I subscribe)

Well, I guess on mine..I have a touch light, books on sex, a candle, and
my stuffed teddy...That's it...I hope to someday get a nice bedroom suite,
and decorate my bedroom really nice...So, that's it for me...

aromatherapy buner and oils
vitamin pills
glass of water

In Australia we call them bedside tables! I have a paper lamp, a frame
with a note left to me by my mother before she died - telling me to always
keep my chin high - a small silver frame with a photo of my mother and my
nephew sitting in the water of a small river, pens, my reading glasses,
earplugs (there's been builders next door and I travel a lot so they come
with me everywhere!) and a little envelope filled with angel's prayers. On
the floor underneath my bedside table is loads and loads of books, my
journal and pregnancy magazines. Oh - and a condom wrapper or two - but
not for much longer...!

My nightstand contains the following items:

TOP
clock radio/alarm (alarms never wake me anyway)
candle w/ glass protector (also marshmallow cooker)
telephone (the most annoying thing I ever purchased)
pair of glasses (sometimes resident)

FIRST DRAWER
assortment of condoms (permanent resident)
eyeglass screwdriver (also convenient for picking locks)
several remote control devices (universal remote is the key to the future)
animal cookie tin
	broken eye glasses

assortment of twisties (essential throughout life)
	dice (white)
earphone jacks (I don't even have headphones)

pocket knife (I found it when I was 8 and my grandmother hid it from me
          until I was 24)
compact disc pouch
Milli Vanilli cd (whether they sang or not; one of my favorites)
small safe
every form of identification I have ever owned from freshman high school
          to employee badges

tennis shoe socks (white/12 pair)
dress socks (black/6 pair & blue/3 pair)

Hi!~ on my night stand i have my alarm clock, of course, and photos of my
friends, sister, and the guys in my life....in my night stand i have old

I'm new to nightstands but my headboard has on it -

My uncles Mexican 'Federale' badge and ID - he did need a 'steenking badge'
a drawer with cutoff denim shorts
a drawer with car show awards

I won't go into what is in my nightstand, mainly because there are more
papers to organize than I would like to think about. On it is really easy.
On my nightstand are, a box of tissues, a clock radio, some books, "Ain't
Nobody'e Business if You Do!: The Absurdity of Consensual Crimes in a Free
Society", a book on self hypnosis, and Imajica by Clive Barker., a lamp,

brother.

From a guy with an accidental nightstand:

It wasn't meant to be a night stand....

Then came the divorce.

Now its a nightstand.

From the Queen of HTML:

To the left of the bed: Lamp (it works), candle, two half-empty (or is
that half-full) glasses of water, a bottle of skin lotion, lip balm, and a
book called "Fugitive Pieces." A blue glass vase of half dead (or is that
half-live?) yellow daisies. A remote control for the TV.

Oh, and a little ceramic elephant that matches one I gave my boyfriend from
a recent visit to the San Diego Zoo.

To the right of the bed: Lamp (doesn't work), more skin lotion, a half full
(or is that half-empty) bottle of water (we drink a lot of water in the
desert), a telephone, a box of tissues, several crumpled, used tissues and
two paperback books, one is "The Horse Whisperer" and the other is a title
I can't see but it's Rudolfo Anaya's latest.

From a woman who is always prepared:

In my nightstand: LOL....my best lingerie :-)

From the sister of a Wendy:

The only doll I managed to save in 20 years' worth of childhood
moves (not a lot was salvaged!)

Package of condoms- thankfully, just about to be obsolete (I got my
pills refilled!)

Binder full of recipes I want to prepare (maybe someday when I have
time...)

My husband's wedding ring (almost ripped his finger off when he was
jumping off a front-end loader, so it's oval, not round)

Alarm clock (We tried using our internal clocks, but the volume must
have been turned down!)

Love your page!

From a woman who sometimes has "Italian urges" (woo!):

Hi Wendy! Just thought i'd join the fun and fill you in on the contents of my
nightstand. An olive green rotary phone, a clock radio, at least 12 candles.
black+white film that I need to develop, a painting of a nude woman on a paper
napkin by a suicidal poet, a book for my dreams, a waterpipe and La Dolce Vita
perfume for those Italian urges.

From a woman who isn't an archaeologist, but has an artifact anyway:

i've got a book named "The Perfect Murder" on my night stand. Along with my
diary, a picture of my baby (boyfriend) Chris and a bottle of coke I found
in the yard thats got to be at least 4 years old.

From a guy who knew a Wendy in college and wishes he could find her:

My nightstand is a metal telephone switching box with the front and back
doors removed.
-.38 stainless steel revolver (glasers)
-telephone
-flashlight

From a Griffin and Sabine fan:

hmm what is on my nightstand. I have the Griffin and Sabine trilogy by Nick
Bantlock and the matching postcards, just in case I get the need for a love
story before bed. I have a little gargoyle that has a candle holder in his
back. He always faces me while I sleep. I have a little tiny fairy about
1'' inch tall. She is from Woodstock, NY. Both of her wings have fallen
off, but she is still very beautiful to me. She faces me at night and
guards all evil thoughts that could creep in. There is a piece of beach
glass from a romantic day I spent on Cape Cod with a loved one. Lastly
there is a little seashell with a smiley face on it that my friend gave me.
It just makes me smile in the morning. And that is my mysterious
nightstand....
From "a very very very unorganized and messy person who likes it that way":

I live in a motor home at the moment, upon my own choice, thank you very
much. It's cozy. (That's cody for "Verrrrrrrry Small")

My night stand would consist of the parts of my bed not taken up by me
or my dogs. We have lots of newspapers, several books about horses, a
stray sock or two, a couple of dog bones, a flashlight, usually my
jacket and some odd clothes that didn't find their way into the closet,
(seems like not much does) A bolt of fabric, don't ask, my stuffed
dog, DOG (that's his name, not a typo) The alarm clock is on the
other side of the motor home, has to be, if it were in my bed I could
turn it off too easily and curl up and go back to sleep. I found a
hanger in the bed the other day and a squished loaf of bread. It must
have fallen from the cupboard above the bed. I also found hammer in
there one night, I have no idea how it got there, with 4 dogs, anything
it possible. So try to make that visual, 2 humans and 4 dogs living in
a 30 ft x 10 ft motor home. Life is never dull. 8)

From a guy who likes virtue, valor and victory:

in: this gets complicated. hmmm...an shrink wrapped "rotary int'l" note

opera glasses, a pocket notebook with nothing in it, 6 decks of cards, 2

you breathe on it, a pen, a little alarm clock that I never use, spare
lip balm (tangerine).

On: A Victorian lamp that shows scenes from mythology, and a vase of
lilacs. (And whatever I'm reading -- at the moment a biography of
William Blake.)

From a TJ:

my nightstand....well, i live in the college dorm now, so my nightstand is
actually my window sill.

I have my alarm clock, my brush, a few quarters and a copy of the little
prince. everyonce in awhile i'll have a box of crayons to color with.

grandmothers doilies and a bible for those not-so-holy-moments!!!!!

From a young boy:

I have foxtrot comic books, calvin and hobbes comic books, A picture of
me and my dad and a digital alarm clock. I also have the remote so my
stereo on there

From a husband of a Wendy:

Actually, I do not have a nightstand... no room in the bedroom, as the
bed takes up all the available space.. but on my headboard, I have a
small cedar box that is my wife's (also named Wendy, which is how I got
to this page), the alarm clock, a basket of condoms (do these things
have expiration dates?) empty champange bottles from 15 years worth of
anniversaries, some stuffed animals (toys, not real), and a lint brush
(don't ask).

From a sensible woman:

I try to keep my nightstand simple, so that when I reach for the alarm
clock to turn it off, I don't knock too much stuff over. I have an alarm
clock, a lamp, my reading glasses, and a coaster in case I feel the need
to have something to drink right before I go to bed. Sometimes, I keep a
box of tissues near the bed, if I have a cold.

From a member of the Friends of Flannel Club:

I have pens and paper, so when I can't sleep I can catch up with long
lost friends. A bottle of moisturizer, powder, birth control pills, and
alcohol and ace bandage(from an injury about a month ago, I never put
them back in the bathroom). In my nightstand is where I keep all of my
lingerie and also my big flannel pajamas for cold nights or when I'm not
in the mood to deal with my fiance.

From another Wendy:

On my nightstand:
--A lamp
--My alarm clock, for my early classes
--A cordless phone, for early morning (3 a.m.) calls from my husband
who	is stationed (US Navy) in Japan.
--A journal I TRY to write in every night
--A pen to write in the journal, of course.
--"Insomnia" by Stephen King, which I just started...
--Some folded piece of paper that I probably should have thrown away a
  long time ago.

In my nightstand:
--the box that my phone came out of, with all the papers inside. I
don't know why I have this...
--the box my answering machine was in. I kept this because I don't know
how to change my message, if I had to.
--Massage Lotion, that has been retired until my husband comes home...
--Trojans, "extra thin" (the BEST!), also retired...for a while.
--Some other junk

*a notebook of poetry
*an empty folder
*a few textbooks
*a bottle of Incognito perfume
*a real long story called ROOTS
*my diary
*and a little ring box

From someone with a new nightstand:

Hello Wendy,
I found your site and started looking around and read some of the answers
to what is in and on your nightstand. I personally found it of some interest
to have a little insight to some other peoples lives. Here is the insight to
mine......
   ON -->

holidays....without bulb, since I have none left to spare for it

   IN -->
nothing (I recently moved into my first apartment (reason for the
new lamp) and just bought the nightstand and dresser) ....never really
thought about what deserves to be placed into my nightstand.....??.....wonder
what (of anything) it will be

Gretta Garbo in my black silk eye mask............

From a guy who thinks he a might be a weirdo, but probably isn't:

Wendy,
Interesting request. Incidentally, I found your site while
looking for a high school classmate. Thought your spot was interesting
so I pop in from time to time to see what's what.
Anyway, here goes on nightstand stuff: [Inside]-pictures we
forgot about many moons ago, a slightly personal picture of my son's
birth (my wife hid it there from in-laws and such), an old miniature tape
recorder w/ no batteries or tape cover, a bottle of massage oil (which we
received for our wedding almost 4 years ago), a graduation tassle, toy
cars (my son is walking now hence all of his stuff "migrates"), candles,
matches (mood lighting), a box of profilactics ("condoms" sounds so
intrusive but who cares; I'm married with a child), 3/4 deck of playing
cards (the rest migrated w/ my son to who-knows-where), miscellaneous
other junk that I cannot remember here; [on]-a lamp (one of those
touch-and-it's-on types that will mysteriously turn itself on to full
lighting at times like 4:15 AM), about 5 books, a pair of socks (either
mine or my son's), about 1/8 of that deck of cards I mentioned, a pound
of dust, glasses (the drinking, not the wearing kind), an empty bag of
Chee-tos Puffs.
All of this stuff makes me wonder what kind of weirdo I really
am.

From my favorite Texas spitfire:

My nightstand, and there's only room for one in our little "Married
Housing" apartment on campus, is on my husband's side of the bed. So
most of the stuff there is his. And let me preface the list by saying
that my husband is Navajo/Assiniboine.

There is a black rabbitskin, instead of a doily. On the fur is a pair
of my husband's glasses, his very large turquoise ring, three bone chokers,
(one he made for himself for our wedding, two he's made for me as
gifts), a toy hedgehog wearing a feather in his "hair," a small reading
lamp, keys, change, a ballpoint pen, and hair ties (strips of leather
for tying my husband's braids).

In the nightstand there is an assortment of massage oils, essential oils
for aromatherapy, a large bottle of Excedrin, Sinutab (for pre-SCUBA
emergencies), a thermometer, usually several history books and a biology
book or two (remember that we are both students), a foot-roller from The
Body Shop, and an ace bandage for my bad ankle.

From a guy with a phone book fetish:

In nightstand: Various out of town hotel telephone books (they are
complementary, right?), cancelled checks, 1 box of Trojans (wink, wink),
odd colored pony tail holders ( from my long hair, rebellious days),
Assorted illegible photos of past mtn. bike races, 1 grey button, 1 plastic
spoon (still wrapped in plastic), a calculator manuel from a calculator I
owned in college; Hey I just found a matching plastic knife, 2 empty 35mm
film cases ( what are we supposed to do with those anyway?)

On nightstand: Gray lamp, the obligitory clock radio, 2 coasters (one with
a half full (or is it half empty?) plastic cup with red liquid (assuming
red Kool-Aid left by girlfriend). Thanks for giving me a forum to share
that.

From a guy at Lucent:

On the upper shelf:

	A lamp.
A book, "H.P.Lovecraft's Tales of Horror" (edited by Stephen Jones
		and Dave Carson).
An egg-shaped piece of blown glass with blue and white swirls in
		it.
An alarm clock. I only use the clock part and the radio part, not
		the alarm part.

On the lower shelf:

	A seashell.
	A card from my wife. I don't know if it's a Hallmark(tm).
	A ceramic pitcher.

From a guy whose wife is an active battery consumer:

my wifes vibrator is in one of the draws. i also have a fan on it.

From a woman who likes to color in the middle of the night:

In my nightstand: various pens & pencils from various banks & stores,
colored pencils, markers & crayolas for restless nights, the heart warming
Chicken Soup for the Soul, a really good picture (unfortunately) of me & my
ex-boyfriend at Silky O' Sullivan's in Memphis, TN, & my dream catcher
journal.
On my nightstand is: a picture of my new boyfriend and our Yellow Lab, the
ever popular clock radio, a stress relief candle & holder, a small topiary
from my best friends wedding & sunshine incense w/ holder.

From a dynamic duo:

My name is Caitlin and I'd like to tell you what's on my nightstand
along with my dear friend Adrian's.

ON ADRIAN'S:"My nightstand is actually a laundry hamper but I never use
it. On the hamper, lies three Archie comics, loose change, my
electronic pet, my sunglasses, tissues because I always have a cold, and
drawings of the Adrian within."

ON CAITLIN'S:"On my nightstand, there is a lamp hovering over me in my
sleep. Also, there is my portable CD player, a stack of choice CDs, my
trusty wallet, a pez dispenser in the likeness of a mouse, a Christmas
tin that was once filled with cookies Adrian made for me, and a hospital
bracelet."

From a packrat:

Well, I must say that I am somewhat of a pack rat and I have all sorts of
papers and certificates from elementary school in my nightstand. On top of
my nightstand, I have a picture of my confirmation class. It is there for
lack of better place to put it. I also have a lamp and my alarm clock and
about an inch of dust. Not only am I a pack rat, but I am very messy. So,
that is what's on my nightstand.

From an Oregon cutie-pie:

My nightstand holds bits and pieces of my life: A carved wooden box filled
with candles rests next to a wicker basket containing mystical but
religious articles. A medicine pouch, prepared with much love by a blessed
spirit lies strewn with crystals, novels and scribbled notes to myself. A
guitar pick doubles as my bookmark in the music book leaning between the
lamp and the wall.

From a Wendy who is not me:

On, not in:
Massage oil, sandalwood incense in a carved teak boat,
dark green plastic ashtray, tall glass of water, 2 mammoth books
(_Poems for the Millenium_, vol.1 in paperback; Pynchon's
_Mason & Dixon_ in hardcover), bottle of valerian capsules,
almost-empty Kleenex box, &, hanging over the edge just now, my
husband's briefs. What did you expect--a clock-radio?
