I'm stuck up here, at the UofM bugcamp, up north in Michigan, with these
things on my desk:
1) a bunch of university mail and pamphlets, addressed to me, that I'll
never read!
2) a browning bannana peel from 3 days ago...

plant, and
some pretty rocks) that my girlfriend gave me as a gift :)
8) a bag of nasty sunflower (?) seeds originally for bating chipmunks!

11) my phish phood! :)

21) nothing else... !

I'm so glad to see what other people keep on their desks.

Do you know....I always have been ashamed of my messy desk and room
I thought I was the only person on this earth that kept a messy desk ha ha
Each day, I say I'll clean up this mess, but I don't
At one time, I was very neat....I wish to recapture that sense of order

Currently, I have on my desk:
My mouse and pad
white princess telephone
address book with a picture of a cat on the front. Sweet story.....When my grandmother died at the age of 95, my mother wasn't ready to open my grandmother's purse, so she gave it to me. I opened it. Please appreciate what I found. Her powder compact (that smelled wonderful, like she always did); two letters from the President of the United States. wishing her a 'Happy Birthday" --- I imagine she carried them with her proudly, showing all of her friends at the earliest opportunity a dime, a penney, and this address book. She loved cats. I couldn't let it go unused....somehow I am reminded of her when I see it....and smile....

On my desk at work, I have a computer that's not in use because it's not
fully set up. I have a telephone and a typewriter. There's also a pencil cup,
a stapler, a staple muncher, and a tape dispencer. Now and then I would leave
magazines on the desk but most of the time I would bring them home. I try to
keep as much personal things away from work as possible. When I'm at my
workplace, there's usually a space on my desk that is dedicated for placing
my messenger bag. I also have a few binders that belong to my colleagues.

What's on my desk?
my computer,
5 stuffed animal monkeys, (17 more in the rest of my
room: total= 22monkeys!)
some highlighters and pens,
Moisturel lotion (good stuff!),
travel-size Scope,

Dont worry people who are lookin through this web-site i am not goin to bore
you with an essay of explainin in acute detail the junk that sits on my
desk! just a short note instead!on my desk there is currently nothing
helping it sink into the floor. that is because my desk folds up so i can
hide everything away wen i want my room to appear tidy. However wen it is
down, there is just shit loads of paper that i have been gradually pilin up
everytime i get a bit of work given bak from my teacher! oh and few skool
exercise books that i hav been meanin to give bak to the skool, kept from
previous years! thanks for skimmin through my letter

Such a question to ask, yet it draws the eye and mind to consider the wealth
of "stuff" I rarely pay any attention to:

*  A new regular computer
* A laptop computer (I've been too lazy to transfer all my business files
into the new computer, so I'm multi-tasking between the two...)
*  A Coca-Cola "Beanie" Polar bear I got when I visited the Coca-Cola museum
in Georgia
* A mousepad with my company logo on it, even though I use a trackball. My
boyfriend works for a graphics company and made it for me when we first
started dating... I hadn't the heart to tell him I didn't use a regular
mouse...
* Coasters made from mousepad material with my company logo... 4 of them.
Another gift from him that I've been using to balance out my laptop since I
broke one of its legs off....
* "Squishy" rubber advertising toys from my dad's desk before he retired,
along with all the "Gilbert" dolls I bought him over the years...
* An empty business card Rolodex that I haven't wanted to use since I
finally got my business cards organized in a binder
* A 16 Zip disk tower with 15 unused disks, since they hold so much
information and I use the same on over and over again... (One of my Office
Depot spending sprees..... Or was it Costco?)
* Lubiderm lotion that is so old, it should be in a glass bottle.
* Wind up teeth, alligator, bunny rabbit, chick and penis toys...
* Catalogs from Craft supply houses and all the invoices from my Crafter's
Choice Book of the Month Club.
* Rocks hand-painted by my girlfriends' children, which are always looked
for when they visit my office, to make sure I still love them
* Vitamins, vitamins, vitamins and a huge Costco bottle of Tylenol
* My standard "piling system" of contracts and drawings... No-one else may
know where anything is, but I do...
* Stack filing baskets full of paperwork. No, none of it is in the right
baskets, but at least they're in a place where they won't get "lost".
*  Antique binder clips
* Regular multi-colored diskettes without lables.... I have to insert each
one of them to find the file I'm looking for.... The multi-coloring was
suppose to help determine which department the files were from.... NOT!
* Three staplers... I only see one of them right now, but I know there's
three. Two must be under the "piling system" somewhere...
*  A tupperware pepper shaker.  It's strange because I don't use pepper
unless I'm cooking and I can't remember the last time I saw the salt...
*  Did I mention vitamins?
* A cork with "Hawaii" written in red ink, from a bottle of Asti Spumanti my
team and I drank with bagels at 9:30 in the morning after winning a major
Hawaiian contract.... Being hung-over by noon is not condusive to
industrious working conditions...
* 3x3" Post-It notepads in every color available.... I have a thing for
Post-Its...
* Outdated electronic component manufacturer buyer's guides. I'm too busy
to transfer my notations from one year's book to the next, so I've got a
really nice antiquated collection going....
* Duplicate message pads.... That's a hard one. I don't answer the phones
or take messages....
* TV Antenna for my television. When it's cloudy, I put it on the corner of
my desk for better reception when watching All My Children, One Life to Live,
General Hospital, People's Court, Divorce Court, News......... It's been
cloudy a lot lately....
* Humongous cappucino cup from Starbucks that I used to use to feed
Skittles, Starbursts, etc. to the masses. It's now primarily used to collect
semiconductors and other electronic parts that don't work anymore. I'm not
sure why they give them to me... Kind of like a cat that brings you a
mouse.... "Thanks for feeding me, here's my contribution...."
* A bowl with a collection of badges from conventions... Kind of like a
matchbook collection from restaraunts you've visited, but bigger.

Had enough yet? Now, if you want to ask me what's in my office closet at
home, THAT would be inventory worth listing!

What's on my desk, starting with the usual stuff:
computer monitor, speakers, mouse, keyboard
phone, tape, stapler, paperclip holder
dilbert-a-day calendar, catbert plush toy
in/out/dunno boxes, briefcase
collection of home-burned MP3 CDs
palm cradle
kleenex box
can of coke, bag of mini snickers
brick from demolished railroad roundhouse
12" high Maltese Falcon replica

Just don't ask what's IN my desk. Even I dunno.

It's pretty crowded =)

And some dust of inspiration

A four sided obstacle
Leading to somewhere I've never been
Hiding messages of which I've yet to receive
And a cup full of anticipation

Life is like a desk top
Cluttered with all sorts of memories
Waiting for the time when we sort though it
And finding a path that suits our needs.

I hope you like what I've written for you, and it is the only copy so
it is yours. Life can be described in many ways, and interaction into
that life follows many paths. Continue to explore the paths that life
presents to you and one day you may discover the meaning of existance.

Hi Wendy, I found your site by chance searching for something unrelated -
and it's fascinating!

On my desk (I am at home):
Computer gear of course - scanner, network hub with six cables and four
flashing lights, adsl modem, monitor, printer, keyboard and mouse ... cradle
for my Palm3, volume control for my speakers, a microphone, a little beige
box that has my Capslock and Numlock lights on it (mouse and keyboard are
cordless, this is the receiver) ... a chipped stoneware coffee mug sitting
on a pair of throwaway ISP cds as coasters (our New Zealand equiv. to AOL
cds in the US I guess :) ) ... a business card from an old friend who I ran
into at the supermarket the other day, and one of my business cards but with
another friend's number scrawled on it... a greenstone pendant ... my watch,
wallet and a very strangely-shaped piece of plastic (it's from a new
collared shirt that first came out of its packet last night and oddly enough
may have been in its packet for years... it smelt kinda funny and I
literally had to use longnosed pliers to take the little needles out) - this
piece of plastic is a curve with teeth on it and I think it was used to hold
the collar of the shirt nicely in place whilst in the packet. ... my car and
house keys, the clip that attaches my cellphone to my belt, my palm3, an
invitation to friend's 21st birthday party which happened 2 nights ago (and
incidentally was amazing fun :) )... an invitation to the opening of a
performance art/installations exhibit of a friend/roommate who is a fine
arts student (Coming up this week, very exciting!) ... my ticket stub from
the Phantom Menace which I have been meaning to paste into a scrapbook ....
two speakers (unintrusive little black cubes mind you).... another of the
throwaway cds I mentioned, and two that aren't throwaway - Moby's -Play- and
a CD of remixes of NIN -The Perfect Drug- (this was a birthday present, my
birthday was last month) - on top of the hub sits a friend's phone number
written on a piece of notepaper, and a supermarket receipt. On top of the
adsl modem sit three cds (all on loan to me), and a female glass head which
wears a Darth Maul mask ( :) ) and also wears my headphones and sunglasses
when I'm not using them. Two small taoist monk statuettes (painted bone I
think) and a tiny porcelain pig. And a bag of small nails (I just finished
hanging a picture that an old and dear friend made me, a collage of stills
from the Empire Strikes Back :) ).

Great site Wendy, keep it up :)

The desk page was getting really big, so I moved the old stuff to an old desk archive.
